Odd socks and your marketing strategy
A close friend of mine who is in his senior years and a conference speaker has spent his entire business life wearing odd socks. It was his point of difference and he used it as a teaching point that you always need a unique point of difference in your business.
I recently travelled through Hong Kong. I passed a fashion store targeting young people. Their power display was a rack of odd socks. Yes, they were colour related, but they were odd socks and now fashionable. No longer a unique point of difference, but a fashion statement.
How do odd socks relate to your business?
To be successful you have to keep evolving. What was your unique feature, even last year may be an accepted part of doing business this year. Alas, other businesses will start copying you and although initially you may look on this as a compliment, eventually it becomes a threat to your business as you will no longer have a point of difference.
What should you do?
Simple! Keep evolving! Successful businesses in retail reinvent themselves every seven years. This does not mean you have to rebuild the building, it does mean you have to redesign and restructure the offer inside the building.
This is where the Agritourism Training Academy can help.

As the sector continues to expand rapidly, the mimicking will increase and you need to be ahead of the field.
By the way, John does not wear odd socks.
